How a New User sees SyncApps by Cazoomi

I attempted to make a Sync Profile recently and found that there were several stumbling blocks along the way that made it a bit difficult for me.

Now a Sync Profile I discovered refers to the setup of 2 available software applications on Cazoomi where one application is synced to another application. This also includes all the settings for both applications including connection configuration, Sync Addon selections, field mapping and Sync scheduling. This I noticed is always a link anywhere I found the word on the site so that helped me out a lot.

However, one problem I encountered is that my trial account had expired without my being able to make a single Sync Profile of my own yet. Even though I got 2 free weeks I got busy and did not get to it. That was resolved by the administrator giving me another 2 weeks which has the potential of making more Sync Profiles and need the ability to go through the system over and over again to test my use cases. Yea!

In my second week I tried to make the actual Sync Profile but was prevented by the system because I was using the wrong Security Token for Salesforce. As it turns out, whenever you change the password for your Salesforce.com account you also need to amend the Security Token as well in each Sync Profile you have setup. You also need to make sure that you don’t add the Security Token to the password in the password field, because there is a separate field for the Security Token itself. The Security Token I needed came from Salesforce because I was attempting to Sync my Salesforce to my Constant Contact.

Eventually I was able to progress along the Sync Profile process until the time for the actual Sync. But then I saw that I was not able to make the Sync work because the contacts I was trying to sync together did not have certain information such as a first or last name for the contact. So that’s what I had to fix before I could attempt another Sync Profile To sync to my Salesforce from Constant Contact I could not sync just email address but also need the First and Last name on each record. I fixed that and wala, sync progressed for my 100 records in the trial.

But I digress, as my Salesforce trial version expired so I had to get another trial setup to move forward. So now I have plenty of time to practice creating a Sync Profile over and over again. Just like in math, practice makes perfect when making a Sync Profile Once I understood how the SyncNotes system the Cazoomi team has for setup works I could easily get all my questions answered in each note to do all my setup.

The experience of going through so many setbacks before I could create a Sync Profile taught me that to a newbie the SyncApps system might seem a bit hard to understand and follow without knowing both my applications well. Fortunately, the in-app setup SyncNotes guided me through the process. I did have to use my own common sense and ability to follow each SyncNotes though before I was able to succeed. I can also see why the 24/7 Global Support teams are needed just in case a user is trying to navigate through the Sync Profile process but is encountering difficulties. The Cazoomi Support team is quick to email, follow up on my support case or any community questions I had each day. For me, my errors can be traced to inexperience with this system and Salesforce.com but also because of my non-IT background. It seems that I need to become familiar with the system by going through it over and over again before I can succeed in making the system work for me and my goals of eliminating manual data entry in both Salesforce and Constant Contact.

I am excited that I will also be able to use my new projects app Xero, which syncs to Constant Contact by Cazoomi too!
