CRM Record Updates Sync to Mailchimp Or Constant Contact: New Options Tailor-Made to eCommerce Needs

Automation has been deemed the future of eCommerce over and over again. And it’s no wonder.

The eCommerce industry has been growing steadily since 2014. In 2019, the revenue from eCommerce retail was 3.53 trillion USD. That’s a small number compared to the 6.54 trillion US dollars that the market is expected to grow to by 2022.

Yes, people are shopping online more and more. Anything you can buy in a supermarket or a mall can be delivered to your home with a few clicks. Then why bother and why waste time in physical stores?

It’s not just the eCommerce revenue growth that paints the picture of this powerful industry. It’s also the decline of the traditional way of shopping. All over the world, malls are closing down. This has been called the retail apocalypse and it comes with some grim photos of abandoned malls.

However, if we’re being fair, it’s not exactly a retail apocalypse. People are still buying.

They’re just doing it from…wherever now, not from a mall or a ‘traditional’ brick-and-mortar shop.

Good news for eCommerce investors and owners, right?

Right, but (there’s always a ‘but’!) an industry growth comes with its own challenges.

One of the most notable ones for eCommerce store owners is handling the ever-increasing amount of clients coming their way.

That’s really not a bad problem to have.

But if you’re not handling it properly, it could turn into a really bad one. Think annoyed customers, then lost customers and then lost the company.

Sounds grimmer than malls closing down?

Perhaps, but it’s true.

Much like a physical store can’t handle hundreds of customers per minute with just two sales assistants, an eCommerce one can’t process these orders without proper systems in place.

Enter automation, eCommerce’s loyal sidekick.

You see, much like eCommerce, automation has also grown exponentially in the past years and it’s set to reach a record 238 billion USD by 2021.

Here’s an undeniable truth: you can’t have proper eCommerce without proper automation.

Can you imagine what processing each order by hand would entail? In short: absolute chaos.

That’s why no sane person ever tried to do it.

But there’s another thing to consider here: while automation is great, chaos can still ensue if all your solutions are disparate and don’t ‘talk’ to each other.

This is where integration comes into play.

When eCommerce solutions are integrated with each other aka they ‘talk’ to each other, your store can be a well-oiled cash machine that needs very little human intervention.

At Cazoomi, we are big believers in the power of integration. I know, we may be biased, but here’s a specific example of what integration can take off your plate.

How to Sync CRM Records Changes to Mailchimp Or Constant Contact

Our eCommerce subscribers know firsthand how painful it can be when CRM records aren’t properly with their Marketing Automation solution.

Now, you may know that the default feature for any integration system worth it’s salt is that any change to a CRM email will update the record in Mailchimp or Constant Contact.

But there’s an issue with this (one that’s more prevalent in native integrations, the ones offered by the Marketing Automation solution or CRM creators themselves): email automation is running on a single email entity from CRM so if the email changes then so does everything else.

Yikes, right?

This can be a huge problem because if the email is changed and a new record is created in Mailchimp then all the email history for the old email is lost. ALL OF IT! Purchase history, online behavior, preferred shopping times, you name it, you’ll lose it anyway.

To avoid this, some people prefer to have a new record created in Mailchimp or Constant Contact.

Of course, we obliged and created a new feature in our integration platform. Now, our clients can choose what they want to happen with their contacts based on a number of scenarios.

Here’s a bird’s eye view of it all:

Want to create a new record if an email address is updated in Salesforce instead of just updating the email record in Mailchimp? Done!

Sync Salesforce to Mailchimp

Want to sync everything to Mailchimp just as it is in Salesforce? Also done!

We know that every eCommerce business has unique needs and unique preferences. And we also know that these preferences and needs change from time to time or on a case-by-case basis.

So we made it our mission to offer options instead of a one-size-should-fit-all-but-doesn’t solution.

If this use case below happens a lot on your team then you could benefit from using this feature that always creates a new record in Mailchimp Instead of editing the existing email record. By default, SyncApps updates Mailchimp when you edit any Salesforce record’s email and does not create a new record in Mailchimp.

Example Time

Still not sure if this feature is right for you? Well, nothing beats the power of example, so let us all learn from one of our customers (the one who inspired this feature, actually):

  1. A Salesforce record is entered and then synced to Mailchimp.
  2. On the next email blast, it hard bounces, and Mailchimp writes back to your custom “hard bounce” field in Salesforce, as TRUE.
  3. A Salesforce user sees this and notices that the likely reason it bounced is because of a typo in the email address. The user simply fixes it in Salesforce.
  4. The Sync seems to correct the email address in Mailchimp– but no new record is created and it simply uses the same record. And because this record is CLEANED (hard bounced in Mailchimp), the corrected email address can never be mailed to.
  5. Now we have a situation in Mailchimp where we have a cleaned record displaying a perfectly valid email address.

Has this ever happened to you? It probably has but you thought there was no solution to it other than manually delete the contact from Mailchimp or Constant Contact.

Now you don’t have to do that anymore.

Nor do you have to lose valuable email addresses just because the ‘machines’ suddenly decided they don’t speak the same language. SyncApps by Cazoomi is your universal translator.

Got a new feature you want to be added to an existing SyncApps integration? We’d love to hear about it and implement it for you! Our customers always know what they need better than us, so drop us a line anytime you think we can help you optimize your workflow even more.
